VA + Medicare FAQs

Do I lose my VA benefits if I enroll in Medicare?
No. Enrolling in Medicare does not affect your VA benefits.

Do I need Medicare Part B if I use the VA?
Many veterans choose to enroll in Part B to have coverage outside the VA system.

Can I use both VA and Medicare?
Yes. You can use either system depending on your needs. One does not affect the other. VA covers care through VA providers, while Medicare covers approved non-VA providers.

Should I enroll in Medicare Part D if I have VA drug coverage?
Often not necessary, but it depends on your prescription needs and whether your current drug coverage meets your needs.
